Volunteers needed! Last Monday of every month. We are looking for social people to join us around 5pm to help with the serving of the meal and assisting people with disabilities to eat the meal.

We serve dinner to folks once we've cooked it. This might mean cutting up their food, grinding some pepper or getting a straw for their drink. No experience necessary, just a willingness to learn and basic kindness. Then we clean up the dishes.

If you want to come early to be part of the cooking, we start that at 3pm. We start serving dinner around 5pm.

Volunteers work together under the guidance of the coordinator to make a mostly vegetarian dinner from scratch using local harvests from the Farmers on 57th project.

Great opportunity for students in dietetics, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy etc. This Community Kitchen is run out of a residential facility where people with disabilities live long term.

The Big Picture: At a typical Community Kitchen, we start by prepping the kitchen, then we clean the harvested vegetables, chop, mix, bake and cook a big dinner. Some volunteers come early to do the cooking. Some volunteers serve dinner, socialize and help feed the residents. Then there's the clean up.

The regular meals served at this facility come on hospital style trays and are chosen weeks in advance. There is no chance for seconds of something you particularly liked. We aim to create a meal that is more homelike and made from fresh whole foods.

Community Kitchen aims to provide an opportunity for residents to participate in the normal activity of making dinner, smelling it while cooking, and eating in a social family-style setting. We also try to enable residents to make choices -- eg. more of that carrot soup, yes to pasta but light on the sauce, etc

When: Usually the last Monday of the month, unless it's a holiday.

We are seeking people who can volunteer for minimum of 6 months. Come once and see if it is a fit for you.

No experience required, and ingredients and recipes are provided. The important thing is that you have a patient, friendly attitude and willingness to work as a team.

Come be a part of our fun and unique community kitchen! We make great food that is much appreciated by people living in a care facility and we have fun while doing it.

Please email with a bit about yourself. Thanks!
