Trailer: Stirling Utility Trailer, 5-ft x 7-ft bought 2020 at Canadian Tire Online
(I am the first owner.)
Cargo Box: Prototype, designed and finished in June 2024
New tires were installed and wheels balanced on Jun 21, 2025, at KAL TIRE in Langley.
I have Purchase Receipt, Transfer/Tax Form, N.V.I.S./D.V.N. New Vehicle Information Statement and current valid Owner’s Certificate of Insurance and vehicle Licence for the trailer.
A shorter trailer was deliberately chosen to allow U-turns on narrow widened sections, or dead ends of the dirt roads.
Trailer bed and box 152.4cm (5ft) wide, enables driving with standard side mirrors. You don’t need extendable side mirrors.
Trailer weight is 222kg, load-bearing capacity is 908kg, and cargo box is 280kg, so there is 406kg left for the load.
Trailer can go through the water, but box is not designed to be submerged in water. So, because trailer height from the ground is 34cm (13.4in), water level should be lower than that.
Bottom of the trailer was painted with Tremclad Rust Paint. Trailed bed and inner sides were painted with white Tremclad Rust Paint Primer. Tremclad Rust dissolves thinner layers of rust and protects the surface so that it never rusts again.
Trailer bed is padded with Blueskin that provides thermal and moisture isolation, and prevents condensation between trailer bed and cargo box.
Trailer has U bolts on both sides, and on the front and back side. So if a car roof-top bag or some other container is placed on top of the trailer box, it can be easily and securely attached.
Cargo box has its own power supply cable (10 Gauge Automotive Cable), which can be plugged in the car’s 12V outlet. Also, cargo box has a compartment for Jackery 500 power station. In front of this compartment is smaller compartment which protects plugs, plugged in the power station from eventual cargo movements. Power station can be replaced with ordinary car battery.
All three compartments of the cargo box are supplied with 12V electrical outlets, and led strips for light. Lights automatically switch off, when lids are closed. In day light, lights are barely visible, but at dusk or night these lights make all the difference in the world of visibility.
Cargo box can be powered directly from the car, or from the power station. In both cases, power station is directly recharged from the car.
Cargo box has three compartments. Front one can hold 4 standard coolers. Middle one is double bigger, and has rests for two big (23l) water canisters. Back compartment has stands for 12V freezer and a big propane bottle.
Electrical Energizer
In the middle compartment, of the cargo box, is one of the strongest electrical energizers for electrical fence. All locks, of the lids of the cargo box, are connected to the electrical energizer. So, if bear came close, just to sniff, the spark will hit it in the nose, and bear won’t ever come even close to the trailer. If you get an electrical fence, just connect it to any of the locks on the trailer lids, and your tent is protected.
Electrical energizer is turned ON and OFF by Key Fob, but there is also a manual switch, so that energizer is not turned ON accidentally.
Height of the trailer with the box 121.00 cm doesn’t totally block the rear-view mirror, so you can see what is directly behind the trailer. Also, this height enables you to load and unload trailer box from the sides.
AC outlet is on the right side, so that you can recharge and power your devices from the outside, while everything is securely locked inside.
Trailer comes with two camo tarps intended to protect it while it is parked, and four stands that are lifting it from the ground, so that tires don’t get deformed when parked for a long periods of time.
Currently, trailer is in Vancouver, and you are welcome to contact me, and come and check the trailer.
