MASTERCRAFT and 4 are stamped on the axe head made by Mann Axe US during 1970's for Canadian Tire. The head has a wider poll for driving log dogs on and that is why it is called a rafting axe. Not all the polls on rafting axes are necessarily hardened and this sample does not look it ever hit a metal object. Beautiful patina on the undamaged hickory wood haft. Flaky lacquer was removed and refinished with raw linseed oil. Sharpened with a belt sander. Wedge profile makes an excellent splitter but also can be used for chopping trees. Ready for action or the display in a man cave.
