We at Music Friends are thrilled to welcome back master violinist Oleg Pokhanovski and friends Minna Rose Chung (cello) and Scott Meek (piano), who are back with a fantastic new program of chamber music.
They will present Brahms' Piano Trio No. 3 in C minor, and Milhaud's Cinéma-fantaisie for Violin and Piano, before venturing into unexplored territory with an exciting new idea: Rachmaninoff's incredible Sonata for Cello and Piano, but with two of the movements arranged for violin and piano by Oleg.

Oleg Pokhanovski, violin
Oleg Pokhanovski is a distinguished violin professor at the University of Manitoba's Desautels Faculty of Music. Oleg is a top prizewinner of eight prestigious international violin competitions including the Paganini in Genova, Sarasate in Pamplona and CIEM in Geneva among others, and was First Prize Winner of the 1990 Scheveningen International Violin Competition. Pokhanovski has performed in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Israel and Russia, giving over 1000 concerts in total. He has been presented in the Carnegie Recital Hall, the Grand Hall in Moscow, the Concertgebouw, Knight Hall in Prague, Place des Arts in Montréal and others. His solo appearances with orchestra included the Moscow Philharmonic, Moscow Virtuosi, The Hague Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Montréal Symphony and Winnipeg Symphony orchestras.
Minna Rose Chung, cello
Korean-American cellist Minna Rose Chung reviewed as “a bright light on the Winnipeg music scene, her intelligent musicality and rich resonance a wonderful addition to any ensemble, devoted and playing with admirable gusto!” (Winnipeg Free Press) returns in performance with the trio. Her recent co-authored publication, "CelloMind: Intonation and Technique" continues to receive pedagogical acclaim for its innovative teachings on the nuances of string intonation. Minna Rose joined the Desautels Faculty of Music in 2008 and is Associate Professor of Cello.
Scott Meek, piano
Described by the Winnipeg Free Press as a “consummate musician” who plays with “near-impossible fluidity” and “total physical involvement and passion,” Canadian pianist Scott Meek is a highly active and sought-after collaborative pianist, chamber musician, and teacher in Vancouver, British Columbia. His extensive repertoire of collaborative works includes over 80 complete concertos and over 70 complete sonatas. Scott Meek’s solo career highlights include three national first prizes (in the Shean Competition, the Knigge Competition, and the FCMF National Music Festival), and top prizes in the Cincinnati World Piano Competition, the Corpus Christi International Competition, and the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition. In Greater Vancouver and on Vancouver Island, over fifteen different recital series have invited Scott Meek to perform as a chamber musician.
