Temporary summer position, 9 weeks from May 4, 2026 through July 3, 2026. Full time, 30 hours/week. Days of work will be determined based on a mutually agreeable schedule and will generally consist of weekday business hours, with some weekend or evening events expected.
Reporting to the Child and Youth Friendly Communities Program Manager, the Education Program Assistant will aid the delivery of various initiatives at SCY throughout the summer season.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in the tailoring, improvement, and co-facilitation of youth rights education workshops and other educational materials
• Work with experts (including youth, planners, lawyers, educators) in relevant focus areas to ensure content is accurate
• Conduct outreach to potential audiences for workshops and engagement events
• Support the creation, promotion and distribution of print resources relating to child rights topics, including posters and pamphlets
• Collaborate with other members of the SCY team to co-facilitate workshops or other child rights events, both in person and virtually
• Assist in the setup and facilitation of Play Street events, including setting up materials and supplies, interacting with and facilitating play activities for attending children and youth, communicating with and answering questions from the public, and assisting with clean up after daily activities
• And other duties as required
Desired Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
• Experience working with school-aged children, and a demonstrated ability to engage and interact with children;
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to the program schedule;
• Ability to follow guidelines and prioritize safety;
• Respect for people of all ages, races, cultures, abilities and sexual orientations;
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to work independently from home without direct supervision, as needed;
• Basic graphic design skills (Canva) and experience with social media posting an asset;
• Comfort with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, SharePoint, Word and Excel), Zoom, and WhatsApp an asset.
