Max/MSP/Jitter (lately simply known as "Max") is a visual object-oriented programming language built and distributed by Cycling 74.com (bought out by Ableton in the last few years) conceived for interactive electroacoustic and video performance:

Max has been part of university level electroacoustic music curriculum for almost as long. If you're new to Max and would like some introductory and potentially more in-depth guidance you can get in touch with me for a session to get you started (I'm a composer/improviser and Max was a big component of my past studies). First half-hour is free for some basic ideas/patches, then subsequently $20/hr. We can meet at a coffee shop or campus setting.
