Inspired by the Rothstein passive mid range control, I wanted to experiment with different components and wiring schemes to see what effects they would have. I discovered that there are distinct differences when used with distorted tones vs. clean tones. The distorted tones mostly come out sounding like variations within a wah pedal, and the clean tones are fairly typical to a standard tone knob, only it’s the mids that are getting rolled off, not the highs. The clean fashioned units will have an effect in overdrive or distortion situations, but the distortion fashioned ones remove too much signal to make them useful for clean tones, therefore I have labelled them for the application they were designed within.
They are made with Bourns A500K push/pull pots, and wired so there are 2 different effects to toggle between with the push/pull switch, the pull setting being the more dramatic of the 2. They come complete with positive and negative leads ready to be soldered into the circuit. The bulk that will sit inside the guitar measures 35mm W x 32mm H x 24mm D, and the shaft sleeve is 9mm in diameter and 19mm in length.
I have 5 different ones for sale. The first 3 were designed for overdrive/distortion. The last 2 have a distortion configuration on the push and a clean configuration on the pull, and are similar but slightly different tonally due to different components.
SOLD 1 - Push (distortion): rolls off high mids into a cocked wah type sound. Pull (distortion): rolls off low mids into deeper cocked wah.
2 - Push (distortion): rolls off high mids but not too deep, really just tames the shrill fizz of the distortion. Pull: rolls off low mids into a cocked wah type sound.
SOLD 3. Push (distortion): rolls off low mids into cocked wah type sound. Pull (distortion): rolls off high mids into cocked wah type sound.
4. Push (distortion): rolls into cocked wah. Pull (clean): rolls off high mids.
5. Push (distortion): rolls into cocked wah. Pull (clean): rolls off high mids.
These go for $20 a piece, pick up in Marpole. Thanks for looking.
