I’m looking for a maker, engineering student, robotics hobbyist, or electronics enthusiast to help build a custom split-flap display for a theatrical production called TIMELESS.
The project is inspired by vintage airport and train station destination boards (similar to Vestaboard and traditional split-flap displays).
The display will be mounted above a custom time-travel portal set piece and will serve as a major visual element in the show.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Display size:
Approximately 22 modules total
11 characters wide x 2 rows high
Capable of displaying years and short messages

The display should be capable of changing messages during the show and operating in a pre-show mode where years cycle automatically.
SCOPE OF WORK
Mechanical:
3D print all required module parts
Assemble flaps and mechanisms
Install motors and sensors
Build and test modules
Create display enclosure/header
Graphics:
Print and apply character labels/stickers to flaps
Ensure alignment and readability
Electronics:
Install controller (ESP32, Raspberry Pi, or similar)
Motor drivers
Wiring and power distribution
Calibration and testing
Software:
Ability to display custom text strings
Random destination mode
Preset destinations and years
Reliable operation during live performances
QLab Integration (Preferred)
The display should ideally be controllable from QLab using OSC, Ethernet, or serial communication.

Start random year mode
Stop random year mode
