About Me:
My name is Philip, and I am a full-time piano teacher in Vancouver with over 15 years of teaching experience to students of all ages and levels. In addition, I am a registered piano teacher with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), with an ARCT Piano Performance Diploma from 2006.
I am professional and patient, with a genuine passion for teaching and music. My lessons are tailored to each student’s specific goals, such as learning classical or pop music for fun, or completing the RCM Practical Piano program – over 90% of my students achieve first class honors or above on their piano exams.
Throughout the past 15 years, I have taught a very diverse range of students – different ages (5 years old to seniors), races, religious backgrounds, musical experience (beginners to advanced), and confidence levels (from those who already have a strong foundation in playing piano, to absolute beginners who doubt their own abilities to learn the music theory and develop their piano technique and dexterity). No matter what my students’ circumstances, I always teach with patience, understanding, and a genuine investment in their growth – one of the most rewarding aspects of my job is seeing my students improve their piano playing, and the joy and confidence that follow.
Included in the lesson fees is an annual piano recital held in downtown Vancouver, giving my students an opportunity to share their progress with their friends and family, and to further develop their confidence in performing. I also teach students music of their choosing outside of the curriculum, and provide the sheet music for free.
My lesson policies are more flexible than a majority of other piano teachers and music schools. I always make efforts to accommodate my students’ requests to reschedule or cancel a lesson, without charging any fees, whereas most teachers charge a static monthly fee, and will not reimburse students for missed lessons. Although this is my business, I prioritize fostering a positive relationship with my students, over nickel and diming every service provided.
I am offering a free 30-minute trial lesson for prospective students to make an informed decision before hiring me.
