Zanthoxylum piperitum, Korean Mountain pepper, 제피, 초피, 젠피, Japanese Sansho, 山椒, The skin of the seed have many flavors of lemon, pepper hot, salty, tingling numbing sensation. The leaves are edible and used in Kimchi and fish dishes in Korea. I had 4 trees with berries. (Require male and female trees close by). Zanthoxylum schinifolium, Prickly ash, 산초나무 similar to Z. piperitum but the thorns are arranged different. Less fragrant. The immature seeds are picked or the ripe seeds are pressed for oil in Korea. N/A not available.
