Nelson the Seagull Cafe is a Sourdough Bakery and Cafe with a food menu based around our house made sourdough bread. Our unique +100 year old space is located in historic Gastown, Vancouver. POSITION DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Following our recipes to prepare drinks and cook our all day menu
- Holding a high cupping/plating standard for every order made to ensure consistency
- Opening and Closing shifts, rotating based on schedule needs
- Completing daily task lists and restocking needed items
- Keeping your working environment and the cafe clean during busy and slow times (wiping tables and counters, collecting dishes, sweeping/moping/vacuuming messes, cleaning washrooms, etc.)
- Staying self motivated to keep busy with tasks even when there are no orders to make
- Keeping our cases/shelves full with baked goods and retail products throughout the day
- Helping to ensure our wholesale orders are ready to go based on customers needs
- Supporting your coworkers when needed
- Important: Once you're fully trained you must be willing to support your fellow team members in any role to help cover breaks or ensure customers are getting their orders in a timely manner. You must be comfortable and willing to take customer orders + handle cash/card payments through our Square system during team break times when needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Availability on Saturday AND Sunday is a must
- Food Safe Level 1
- At least 1 year experience in a cafe barista/cooking in a restaurant
- Willing to learn and implement new offerings
- Food quality control, following a FIFO system
- Comfortable speaking on the phone to suppliers or customers
- Cross over skills (cash handling, barista, kitchen experience)
- Unwavering ability to be kind and professional with your fellow team members and customers, especially during busy and stressful moments.
- Helping to uphold any cleaning tasks + safety rules in place

GOOD TO KNOW:
- Shifts could start as early as 7:30am
- Shifts could end as late as 5pm
- Our open hours are 8am-4pm every day.
- We ask any potential new team member to come in for a paid trial shift, this will allow you decide if you think we're a good fit and allows our team decide if we think you're a good fit too.
- Easy skytrain (Waterfront or Chinatown Station - Canada Line) and bus routes to get to and from work
