Since 2016, the Jack O’ Clubs Pub has served as the culinary and entertainment centre of Wells. We are known for high-quality food, unique drink offerings, and warm, attentive service that reflects the spirit of the community. As we expand operations to meet increasing demand, we are seeking a strong culinary leader to guide our kitchen into its next phase of growth and innovation.
The Opportunity
We are recruiting a Head Chef / Kitchen Manager to oversee all culinary operations and lead a dedicated kitchen team. This senior role is responsible for menu development, recipe creation, cost control, inventory management, food safety compliance, and the overall performance of the kitchen. The successful candidate will bring creativity, professionalism, and strong leadership to a fast-paced environment where quality and consistency are paramount.
This position is ideal for an experienced chef who is ready to take ownership of a kitchen, shape a menu, and contribute meaningfully to a community-focused establishment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all aspects of kitchen operations, ensuring smooth, efficient, and high-quality service
Develop seasonal menus, create new recipes, and maintain standardized recipe documentation
Conduct menu costing, portion control, and food cost analysis to support financial targets
Oversee inventory management, including ordering, receiving, rotation, and waste reduction
Ensure full compliance with food safety, sanitation, and WorkSafeBC regulations
Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff, fostering a positive and professional work environment
Maintain high standards of food preparation, presentation, and consistency across all menu items
Collaborate with ownership and front-of-house leadership on menu planning, special events, and operational improvements
Manage scheduling, workflow planning, and labour cost considerations
Monitor equipment functionality and coordinate maintenance or repairs as needed
Uphold a culture of respect, teamwork, and accountability within the kitchen
Qualifications & Skills
Extensive experience in culinary leadership, preferably as a Head Chef, Executive Sous Chef, or Kitchen Manager
Strong background in menu development, recipe creation, and cost control
Proven ability to manage inventory, ordering, and supplier relationships
Thorough understanding of food safety regulations, kitchen operations, and best practices
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team
Creative approach to culinary design, with a commitment to quality and innovation
Strong organizational and time-management abilities, especially during high-volume service
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
Passion for hospitality, community engagement, and delivering exceptional dining experiences
