PUBLIC SERVICE

To prevent further loss of life and property from lithium battery fires
and to
lessen conflicts between tenants / landloards / strata councils

Dateline: VANCOUVER, BC — Free ebike / e-scooter lithium battery thermal scans will be held at coffee shop beside the Surrey Central Skytrain Station from 4pm to 7pm. Battery chargers will be inspected and tested as well. Proximate health of Battery Management Systems (“BMS”) will be provided.

Who should go?

Ebike and electric scooter riders who have subjected their battery packs or their battery chargers to vibration or droppage.

Owners of battery chargers that do not have dedicated on/off switches.

Riders with anxiety from their neighbors on hearing the news of the death of a well-liked e-rider Tim Lilley in the West End, who heroically saved his wife.

Strata Council members looking for technical information about fire insurance claim denials or are contemplating banning battery-powered bikes or scooters.

Everyone who wants to hear about Steve Miloshev's electric scooters which could go up Mountain Highway in North Van without lithium batteries. Miloshev invented hub motors that delivered 350% more power without unwanted heat. These were available from 2007 to 2021.

Organized by Rob's Repairs (not a seller of ebikes or ebike batteries). Rob's repairs and re-programs stairlifts.

Free balloon twisting or face painting for kids provided by Vancouver Party Savers.

My experience in what caused overcharging or ballooned cells; and once, a blown fuse:

Dropped battery.
AC ripple on Daymak maxi scooter.
Damaged BMS.
Mistakenly plugging cord into Motorino pack instead of the charger.
Motorino BMS without active cell balancing functionality.
Battery age.
Charging when temperatures or moisture forbid.
Charger without temperature compensation functionality.
Vibration that made charger output become erratic.
Vibration breaking connections or circuit board traces.
AC voltage or spikes exceeding charger's capability.
Cells without Hi-V terminating circuitry, as used in almost all packs to obtain the High-C rate desired by consumers.
Wrong charger, or setting, or charge profile, for the cell chemistry being charged.
Rainwater or moisture in pack.
Wiring cells with different Internal Resistance together.
Moisture ingress in wiring.
Missing BMS in any multi-cell series pack.
Invisible corrosion on connections.
