I bought them about 2.5 years ago and had a local speaker design guru thoroughly go them. He has designed drivers and speakers for his own line that are currently available at a local high end shop and for other speaker companies. He repaired the dented tweeter grills and also did extensive upgrades - i.e. extra cabinet bracing and dampening, new binding posts, complete reengineering and rebuilding of the crossover, new internal wiring, new grill covers, etc. I still have the original grill covers with the emblems. He said he could not redo the grill cloth without destroying the original pastic frames so he had his cabinet maker build new ones for me.
On to the sound...very monitor like - i.e. transparent, focused, etc but a little unforgiving. This is a nice set of speakers for near field monitoring, small apartment, etc but it only gives solid bass down to the mid 60 Hz level. I am sure you could blend them nicely to a subwoofer if you do have the space and/or desire to go down that path for a more full bandwidth response.
Rear of one cabinet has a little bit of corner damage that the cabinet maker made a little nicer. Tops have some slight swirling and the bottoms of the speakers are a little bit rough but you will not see them when you are playing them. The pics included are pics that the speaker engineer sent to me at the time of and after his work was completed.
