Beautiful African piece of Art called Batik from West Africa (Burkina Faso) (Dimensions : 82 cm X 21 cm) Material : Cotton fabric
"Starting with a piece of white cotton, the "batikié" artist draws on the fabric what will become the batik. The result is a succession of dips in different dye baths.
Technique:
The parts that should not receive color are most often protected by wax, thus waterproofing the fabric. Once immersed in a dye bath, the fabric is boiled to melt the wax which has therefore allowed to preserve the initial color in this precise area. We can thus obtain either the white background of the cotton, or a lighter color if the batikié has protected a part already dyed in the same color. We obtain gradients or monochrome depending on the number of passes.
Each color will require soaking, rinsing and drying, that is to say that a batik of 5 colors will require 5 times these operations starting with the lightest colors."
