This is a process Nancy takes for a real hand painting....
*** These are the steps of a real Hand Paintings done with brush/paint in the artist hand Nancy, 12 years of painting and teaching.
Nancy’s paintings are all Hand Painted….. She starts her "Still Life Painting" with vision and a mechanical pencil and my trusty push pen eraser. She sketches forms on tracing paper, pottery, objects, flowers, thinking of color themes. Next, she transfers the drawings onto watercolor paper using transfer paper. She applies washes of acrylic paint to certain areas and other areas in solid colors, adding fine details with a #01 liner brush. Always adjusting for in the details, colors.
"Floated Color" is a Folk Art painting technique by adding Shading and Highlights for creating values in depth from 1d painting to 2d finished painting. To achieve this, use a large flat brush, slightly dampened with water, and dip one corner in paint, blend on palette paper to create a gradation of color, stay in one line, blend back and forth, blend. Nancy enhances her paintings with elements like flowers, glass vase, wood grain surfaces, desk w/drawers, Eagle feather, piece of Fur and my all-time favorite Red Native Blanket w/white + black details only for Consignment pieces only.
*** Viewing the work from a distance helps ensure harmony. Placing mats on top can aid in visual appeal and to make adjustments.
Nancy signs the painting only when she is fully totally completely satisfied with the details and colors.

Biography: Nancy taught beginner Folk Art, Decorative, and Tole Painting in Parksville, BC from 1990 to 2002. Her gift/craft store offered handmade gifts, classes, and supplies in Folk Art and Quilting, and she taught in various locations including Vancouver Island, White Horse, Ucluelet, Bellevue, and Portland, Seaside OR.
*After closing her store in 2000 due to illness, Nancy took a long break before gradually returning to painting. Over the next 16 years, she developed new techniques and created series like “Southwest Pottery,” “Trees,” and “Roses,” selling her art in galleries and shows. I moved from Parksville to Port Coquitlam, Vancouver in early 2020.
