Main center flat part is 3/4" pine l 21 1/2" x 11" w... The center flat unscrews from runners (only this part is brought to class)
}}} Below is explaination of how much time/work an Advance student puts on this "Claus Flyer" Sled that is all hand painted...
}}} You need learned knowledge of hand painting in pre-prep, brush strokes techniques, basecoating, floated color, and details is involved in a class.
This was also a class project: Students p/u 14 days before class and sled wood piece ($95.00 cost) and typed instrcution for pre-prep homework,
Unscrews main flat part from the runners and stain everything with Spice Brown and in this "Advanced" the students will white wash the background in several coats of white and feathering out (mop brush) to edges of sled BUT leaving showing space of Spice Brown stain all around.
Making sure each white wash is dry do not work wet on wet (my trick to speed up drying time is a hair blower) a little darker white wash in the center but don't cover up the wood grain of the Sled. Leave washes to dry completly (2 hours) before tracing on your pattern and basecoat from typed instruction: houses, red hat/coat, green strip, shirt, burlap sack, vest, boots and wood walking stick and I'll see you in class and only bring center part. This will take a full day to finish in class students are giving typed finishing steps, listening to Nancy steps of floating color in shading / highlights or sometimes a visual demonstration is needed and continue with next steps. If anyone needs Nancy help will to come to your station, take your brush and sit down to help... Always a happy group especialy at lunch time. Details on Santa Tweed pants was Nancy's own technique and was quick and easy, they said Wow I surprised everyone. The same for Santas vest. Floated color on the rest was easy. Then we chisled w/heavy white paint on one side of brush to indecate snow has accumulated around his boots. We finished with the Pine Bought w/double loaded flat brush, add pine cones fill in branches and berries and most important is to Sign there name.
Students at home will varnish very thin coats of Deltas Satin Varnish and then screw on Runners and decorate with Xmas ropes/tassels. Have a great Merry Christmas to everyone.
