# Before You Apply
We believe it's important that you understand how this position works before investing your timeβand ours.
For over 30 years, Headlines Distribution has developed reliable overnight operations people by teaching them the business from the ground up.
This is **not** an office position.
This is **not** an overnight management position.
This is **not** a position where someone is hired one night and supervising people the next.
Our goal is to develop dependable Operations Support team members who understand every part of the overnight operation because they've done the work themselves.
If you're looking for a long-term opportunity where responsibility is earned through demonstrated performance, keep reading.

# Our Operations Development Program
We believe the best Operations Support people first learn how to successfully manage themselves.
Before you can support other contractors, you need to understand what the job is really like.
Everyone starts at the beginning.
---
# Stage 1 β Master Yourself
Every Operations Support team member begins by learning the operation from the ground up.
Your first responsibility is learning a route package.
You won't be expected to walk in and manage a full workload on your first night.
Instead, you'll build your route package as your confidence, efficiency, and experience grow.
A typical progression may look like this:
* Learn approximately 20 newspapers.
* Once comfortable, another section is added.
* Continue building your package until you're successfully managing the complete route.
Some people progress in a few days.
Others may take a few weeks.
Everyone learns differently.
Our goal isn't to see how many newspapers you can carry.
**Our goal is to help you become successful.**
---
# During Your First Few Weeks You'll Learn...
## Route Skills
β Organizing multiple newspaper products before leaving the drop site.
β Reading delivery lists and customer instructions.
β Finding unfamiliar addresses while working in the dark.
β Using GPS, Google Maps, and delivery apps to build efficient routes.
β Learning route sequencing and improving delivery efficiency.
β Knowing when newspapers should be rubber-banded, bagged, or delivered exactly as printed based on weather, customer expectations, and delivery location.
As your skills, responsibilities, and workload grow...
...your earning potential grows.
Applicants with strong newspaper distribution, logistics, dispatch, transportation, warehouse, construction, or operational experience may progress through the development program more quickly **after demonstrating their ability within our operation.**
β Understand that responsibility is earnedβnot given.
