DIY Bike Shop (South Surrey / White Rock)

Purchased parts you can’t get locally, such as from bikehubstore?
MEC member, but prefer to install it yourself?
Lacking specialized bike tools?
Downsized and nowhere to work on your bicycle or e-bike?

Downtube Bike Repair is South Surrey / White Rock’s ONLY do-it-yourself bicycle workshop space. You can:

- Work ergonomically using a bike stand and ceiling lift (Feedback Sports)
- Replace cables and housings
- Patch/replace tubes and tires
- Clean chains using an ultrasonic cleaner
- Check chain and Shimano sprocket wear (Rohloff HG-IG gauge)
- Re-align rear derailleur hangers (Park Tool DAG-2.2)
- True wheels (truing stand, tension gauge, dishing tool, spoke wrenches)
- Bleed brakes (Avid, Giant, Hayes, Hope, Jagwire, Magura, Shimano)
- Service headsets (Park RT-1 cup remover, HHP-2 bearing cup press, CRS-1 crown race setter)
- Replace / make new spokes (Hozan spoke machine)
- Service bottom brackets (see picture of available wrenches)

Use high quality tools:

- German: Knipex, NWS, Wera
- N. American: Channellock, Gray, Klein, Mac, Snap-on
- Gauges: FSA Headset Gauge, spoke ruler, metric & imperial Screw Chek’r, digital calipers
- Air compressor, gram scale (for weight weenies), drill press, bench vise, bench grinder, Dremel, torque wrenches
- Electric bike tools: Anderson Powerpole crimper, D-SUB crimper, soldering iron, heat gun, voltmeter

Use fluids:

- Boeshield T-9
- Pro Gold Prolink Chain Lube
- Sturmey Archer IGH (internal gear hub) grease
- Park SAC-2 Carbon Assembly Compound
- Park ASC-1 Anti Seize Compound (for titanium, etc)

Use service guides and manuals by:

- Barnett Bicycle Institute
- Park Tool
- Sutherland’s

I do not sell parts. Buy them from your local bike shop, or elsewhere.

I’m the bike mechanic for South Surrey / White Rock Repair Cafe. I also volunteer at Our Community Bikes Co-op in Vancouver.

$20/hr (40-minute minimum). You then get to use $3,000 worth of bike tools. I will also be dedicated to you while you’re here.

Hours: 6 days a week, daytime and evening. Closed Mondays.
