This wall plate is by the West German Ceramic company of Ruscha. The style is very typical for the 50s with the deep black background and the colour popping off of it. The time was influenced by people who started traveling the world again and being influenced by other cultures. This design was part of the Grenada line and was always hand decorated. Each was signed by both artists that worked on the plate. The original sketcher and the colourist. Because they were all hand drawn each one is slightly different as the artists took liberty with the people placement or size of the trees in order to balance the designs. These 50s pieces are getting much harder to find. This one has a three dot design on the skirt that I never saw on other designs - they usually have only one - so it is a bit more unique. This dish has no chips or cracks. It has a small black glaze miss on the right of the leaves, which is much more visible in the photos than in real life. It is 7.25" wide and I have left the wire that it originally hung with on. It's ready to go. A perfect little stylish piece of original art.
