The 50s were full of fun souvenirs and if you were a European tourist at the time, the entire North American culture was so exotic to you. This is an amazing example of the kind of happy, creative, silly and even kitschy things that were out there. These were made in Japan (typical for the day for Canadian souvenirs) It is red-ware with a deep brown glaze to mimic wood, the designs were cold painted on by hand. The pieces were really not meant to survive all that long which makes these - in this condition - a real treasure. The teapot can be configured to be a few different things. There is a teapot (in a very Japanese style which makes sense as these were designed and manufactured in Japan). There is also a creamer and a sugar pot, with lid - it fits both the teapot and the sugar. When separate they are fun - but stacked they make a wonderful display. I am also including the matching mug and salt / pepper shakers. Not a single piece has a chip or crack and the cold paint has stayed amazingly intact with minimal rubbing. BTW - NO dishwasher for these pieces.
