Imagine, when this little pin dish was being used, Theodore Roosevelt was living in the house (that is Teddy Roosevelt - The man the teddy bear was named after) and Queen Victoria was ruling the roost in England. The original owner of this little dish might have put this little souvenir on a side table, for her visiting ladies to admire, and was wearing floor length dresses with a bustle. Makes this humble little souvenir, from the turn-of -the century feel a bit like a time traveller. The dish comes from Germany, which was renowned for have the best porcelain and Chromolighographical printing. They are even now much respected in that field but this dish is from before there was ever a world war. The printing has such delicate detailing for its size and there is really little to no wear anywhere. You are almost tempted to count the stars on the flag - which at the time of this dish would have only numbered around only 45. The image shows the White House's North Portico. I love the way they have given the sky that mottling of clouds rather than just plopping the house in the middle. The gold rim is exceptionally well kept with just a touch of wear when you consider that it is around 125 years old… how many times was it picked up. I always made sure to never touch the gold myself when picking it up. No chips, or cracks or crazing and no scratching on the image. The dish measures 15 cm x 8.5 cm (approx. of 3" x 6")
