Rarely played black/charcoal flamed maple Limited Edition Les Paul (Serial Number U97071037) made by the Unsung factory, Korea in July, 1997 (28 years old). Limited Edition LPs made in Korea of this general age (1995 to 2005) are well sought after for their excellent build and wood quality, and they are definitely better than the plain LP Standard builds. Look it up, it’s true. It’s like getting pretty close to a real Gibson LP for much less $. This guitar is in very good condition with no dings or scratches on the body face/front, sides or neck, but the back has a couple of very minor buckle rash/scrapes from a previous owner. Nice subtle charcoal flame maple top. All original Epiphone factory black hardware (tuners, bridge, stop-bar, strap pegs, pick-guard). The original owner likely installed the Wilkinson zebra humbucker pickups, and they are the real deal and not the recent cheap Chinese knock-off versions. To me they seem to be just a little bit hot with a big full clean presence, and my guess is that they are the higher-end Alnico 5 “Vintage/PAF” type pickups that were also made in Korea. No need to upgrade the pups; they are good quality and sound. Sounds really nice with very little to no hiss noise on clean settings. Pots and wiring were surely replaced/upgraded by the previous owner (not Epiphone OEM), and the bridge tone knob has a push-pull coil splitter for the bridge pickup. The 3-way switch appears to have been replaced as well. The mahogany set-neck is dead-straight, the frets have minimal wear, the fretboard is rosewood, and the action is quite low with no fret buzzing. Perfect guitar for a shredder or experienced guitarist.
I just cleaned the entire guitar, oiled the fret board, steel-wooled the frets, and put on some D’Addario 10-gauge strings. You will not be disappointed by this guitar. It comes with an official Epiphone case that has seen a little bit of storage and road wear, but it still has lots of life left (see photos).
