Framed Photograph "Grey Dawn" by W.R. MacAskill (1887-1956)
- This photograph, taken during the International Fishermen's Trophy Race captures the essence of the Bluenose, a famous schooner from the 1920s.
- The dark gray wooden frame measures 12 inches x 14 inches.
- The opening measures 7-5/8 inches x 9-5/8 inches.
- Hanging wire attached on the back to allow easy display.
- Title in bottom left corner "Grey Dawn (1921)"
- In bottom right corner the artists name, "W.R. MacAskill". Wallace Robinson MacAskill, professional photographer, was born 1887 at St. Peters, Cape Breton County, N.S. In 1929, the Bluenose stamp based on his photograph was issued. Internationally known as a marine photographer and his photographs were used extensively for advertising by the Nova Scotia government. MacAskill published two books, Out of Halifax (1937) and Lure of the Sea (1951). He died at his home, "Brigadoon", in Ferguson Cove on 25 January 1956.
