Long considered the "Holy Grail" of guitar tonewoods, Brazilian Rosewood is one of the rarest and most tightly controlled woods under the CITES international treaty. It is so rare in fact, that wood used must be proven to be harvested before 1993 to receive approval for legal use in trade. The "Old Growth" Brazilian Rosewood back and side set used for this incredible instrument, which was recovered from a shipwreck off the coast of Brazil. The ship left Brazil in 1937 carrying a load of Brazilian Rosewood logs destined for Denmark for furniture production, when it capsized and sank off the coast of Brazil. The wreckage was salvaged back in 2006 and the Brazilian Rosewood was well preserved due to the salt water.
