JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:
To perform a variety of assigned duties related to quality assurance and quality control, such as quality assurance evaluations of materials and equipment. Majority of duties may focus on one product specialty, including coating, timber products and welding inspections.
This position will support the inspection and acceptance of stock materials being procured by BC Hydro. Strong computer skills, experience with interpretation of technical requirements and the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team are considered an asset.
What you’ll do
* Provides inspection and quality assurance (QA) evaluation services to departments within BC Hydro (primarily Engineering, Project Delivery and Materials Management) and to external clients.
* Attends pre-job and pre-bid evaluations, participates in technical discussions and provides relevant input or documentation. Provides quotes when requested by client.
* Prepares and analyzes samples, such as wood core, solutions, coatings and cables.
* Provides technical reports. Provides verbal and written technical information on project specific material selection, performance, recommendations and evaluations.
* Reviews specifications and project documentation, such as timber grading, and provides verbal and written comments to ensure that quality hold points and requirements are appropriately included in the documents.
* Inspects incoming commodity items and related hardware that have been flagged as requiring inspection. Examines storage and shipping arrangements. Identifies manufacturing defects and reports all deficiencies.
* Performs factory, plant and equipment inspections. Inspects products before and after treatment for structural or dimensional flaws. Informs buyers, managers and engineers of specification compliance or non-compliance of a product or service.
* Participates in evaluations of new products. Reports observations regarding the performance of new products including damage caused by handling and storage. Inspects used products returned to stores and advises on methods of making products reusable.
* Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.
Qualifications:
* A relevant Certificate of Technology from a recognized Institute of Technology with at least one of the following:
- One year training in Machine Shop, Fabricating Shop or Equipment Manufacturer;
- Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certification with at least three (3) years of related experience;
- National Association Corrosion Engineer Level 3 and peer review certification (NACE), completion of Steel Structure Painting Council (SSPC) Lead removal and abatement, Containment and Ventilation Courses;
- Class B Lumber Grading Ticket from the Canadian Mill Services Association (CMSA) or other recognized accreditation agency and an Industrial Wood Processing & Management Certificate or equivalent from a recognized Institute of Technology with at least three (3) years of related grading experience in the wood industry.
* Valid BC Drivers Licence is required. (Class 5)
* Satisfactory performance on the job requires approximately three (3) years to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the full scope of the job.

* May be required to travel overnight to job sites and stay up to three weeks away from home on out-of-town projects.

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.
IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
