Peer Coordinator - PROJECT ALLIES (New Westminster)

Role Summary

The Lower Mainland Purpose Society and New Westminster Overdose Community Action Team (NWOCAT) is looking to hire a Peer Coordinator to coordinate Project ALLIES, a peer-led overdose response initiative. The Peer Coordinator will be responsible for program administration, and must be able to provide direction and support to a team of Peer Mentors. Peer Mentors provide the following services to individuals at risk of drug overdose: (a) conduct outreach, and distribute harm reduction supplies; (b) assess individual needs, and offer regular check ins; (c) make referrals to essential services; (d) build peer network through ongoing projects, and trainings. The program may receive self-referrals, as well as referrals from community members, businesses, first responders, community organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities
⬜ Respond to community inquiries or referrals, and keep detailed records on call log
⬜ Coordinate program schedule, timesheets, and other administrative duties
⬜ Assign referrals to an appropriate peer mentor, each will have their own caseload
⬜ Oversee client files, and database system
⬜ Develop and maintain updated program documents, including referral binder
⬜ Provide direction to peer mentors, ensure adherence to program policies and procedures
⬜ Attend to overdose emergencies as required
⬜ Build rapport with community partners, and peer advocacy groups
⬜ Provide regular program updates to monthly NWOCAT meetings
⬜ Troubleshoot issues as they arise, and bring them forward to leadership as appropriate

Qualifications
● In depth understanding of the overdose crisis, as well as other health and social conditions such as poverty, sex work, homelessness, and/or other physical or health health issues
● Familiarity with naloxone administration and overdose response practices
● Education and/or equivalent experience providing peer-based support services
● Basic computer skills, and experience with data entry is considered an asset

Hours of Work
7 hours per day, 5 days per week. Some evening and weekend work required.

Compensation
$21 per hour
