Up for grabs is an Epiphone Thunderbird Classic IV Pro in Alpine White. Lightly used, in excellent condition, and upgraded where it actually matters. The original Epiphone bridges that came on these models were a little lackluster, so it was upgraded with a Hipshot SuperTone Gibson bridge, which really takes this instrument to the next level.
This particular model is sought after because it isn’t one of the common bolt-on neck Chinese Thunderbirds you usually see floating around. It uses a full neck-through construction and comes loaded with genuine Gibson TB Plus pickups, the same ceramic-magnet humbuckers found in Gibson’s own Thunderbird line. Most players can’t even tell these apart tone or playing wise from the Gibson Thunderbirds that sell for several thousand dollars, which is exactly why Epiphone discontinued this version. It was eating into Gibson’s sales by offering nearly identical tone, hardware quality and build features at a literal fraction of the price.
The fretboard is in excellent condition. Input jacks and pickups are functioning perfectly. Plugged in, it sounds amazing and the guitar keeps its tuning over long periods of time. The bass is currently rocking round wound strings that are very fresh. The guitar comes with a hardcase and strap to keep it protected while in travel or storage.
Only downside: the pickguard has some discoloration. In my earlier and dumber years, I left a rectangular sticker on it long enough that the rest of the guard yellowed under UV, so when the sticker came off you’re left with a faint white rectangle. Purely cosmetic. Replacement pickguards are easy to find. The price reflects this.
